Description

Begin your journey at Mercado do Bolhão, where you’ll be introduced to Porto’s daily food culture, seafood habits, cod identity, and the rhythm of local market life. From the market, continue through downtown Porto via Rua de 31 de Janeiro and Liberdade Square, linking the food story of Bolhão to the wider story of the city. At São Bento, learn about Porto’s movement, trade, and urban history, and discover how circulation, commerce, and daily life helped shape the city’s relationship with seafood and the sea. Next, hop on bus 500, which becomes part of the tour itself. Rather than simply moving from one place to another, this transfer marks a visible change in Porto’s character, taking you from the busy city center toward the river mouth and the Atlantic edge. In Cantareira, enter the old fishermen quarter and feel the atmosphere shift. Here, Porto feels more intimate, more maritime, and more directly connected to working life by the water. This is the beginning of the Foz chapter, where the story becomes less about seafood in the city and more about life shaped by navigation, river currents, weather, and the sea. Continue to the Capela-Farol de São Miguel-o-Anjo, where your guide introduces the story of dangerous waters, navigation, and the historic importance of the Douro bar. From there, move through Passeio Alegre Garden, where the city opens up and the transition from river to ocean becomes part of the experience itself. At Esplanada do Castelo, reach the Atlantic-facing climax of your tour. This is not only one of the most scenic parts of the route, but also one of the tasting moments, allowing you to connect the coastal landscape directly with the flavors on the tour. From there, close your experience in a more intimate setting at Tentacoes no Prato, where the final tasting ties the route back to neighborhood identity, fishermen life, and the character of old Foz.
