Description

Depart from Porto city center in comfortable transport for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to the Arouca UNESCO Global Geopark. Upon arrival, meet your certified local guide and prepare to cross the Arouca 516 Suspension Bridge, suspended 175 meters above the River Paiva and Aguieiras Waterfall.

The bridge crossing is optional. Those preferring a less intense experience can be driven across by 4x4 to meet the group on the other side.

Continue on the Paiva Walkways, a wooden path along the cliffs of the Paiva River Gorge. The guide will highlight topics such as biodiversity, geology, archaeology, and local history while pointing out prime photo opportunities. Please note that due to recent wildfires, only the first half of the trail (Alvarenga to Vau) is currently accessible.

At the end of the walk, relax at Vau River Beach and refresh with traditional snacks, juice, and fresh fruit. Bring a swimsuit if you wish to swim in the river on warm days.

On the return to Porto, stop in Arouca town. Here, you can unwind with a cold drink and local snack at a traditional restaurant. If you have chosen the lunch option, enjoy Arouquesa roasted veal with a beverage, or a vegetarian vegetable feijoada with rice. Finish with conventual pastry from Arouca’s Santa Maria Monastery.
