Description

This tour begins with a drive from Porto to Guimarães, a city settled in the 9th century and recognized as the birthplace of Portugal. Its walled historic center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.

Next, the tour continues to Braga, the largest city in the Minho region and one of Europe’s oldest cities. Braga features diverse architecture, including medieval, neo-classical, and baroque styles, and is home to several beautiful churches, such as Braga Cathedral.

There is a break for lunch in Braga (not included), allowing time to explore the city’s surroundings.

After lunch, the group returns to Guimarães to visit its 10th-century castle. The medieval fortress offers views over the city and is closely tied to the history of Portugal’s first king, D. Afonso Henriques. Additional stops include the Palace of the Bragança Dukes and São Miguel Church.

The guided walking tour covers landmarks such as the statue of D. Afonso Henriques, Martins Sarmento Square, Santa Maria Street, the City Hall, Santiago Square, and Senhora da Oliveira Church, tracing the development of a medieval city through the centuries.

The tour concludes with a return trip to Porto, arriving in the evening.
