Description
Take a half-day trip from Porto to Braga and Guimarães, the most historical towns in Northern Portugal. Learn more about their history and visit the main landmarks such as the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus or Sé Cathedral. Customize your trip and choose where to go first and how much time to spend in each place.
Begin with a personal pickup by your English-speaking driver from your hotel or apartment in Porto. The driver will suggest the route of the trip with the key attractions that are worth the visit. Since this is a personal sightseeing ride, the driver will stop at any attraction of your choice and spend there as much time as you wish.
In less than an hour, reach the town of Braga, one of the oldest in the country. Braga combines an ancient spirit which whiffles from the old town architecture with a lively atmosphere from young people who come to study here.
Many travelers from all over the world visit Braga to feel its spirit and discover the main landmarks. Among the favorites, find Sé de Braga, a magnificent Roman Catholic church, as well as the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, an outstanding Portuguese sanctuary with many beautifully-decorated stairs.
If you drive a little bit out of the town, be able to see Santuário de Nossa Senhora do Sameiro, another stunning sanctuary near Braga, built in the 19th century which was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1982. The shrine is located on the hill so you will be able to admire the city views from the top of it.
Another religious site that you might consider visiting is Igreja de Santa Maria Madalena de Falperra. This church is situated in the surroundings of the city as well but its glorious Baroque facades will surely impress you.
Then head to the city of Guimarães, you will visit many landmarks, including the Guimarães Cathedral and Bom Jesus do Monte. Furthermore, you will visit its medieval castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, before wandering into the historic central square, Largo da Oliveira, for a local lunch.
When relaxed and replenished, relax back on board your private car as you return to Porto, with hotel drop-off included. If you feel hungry during the day trip, the Welcome Driver will suggest you the best restaurants to taste traditional Portuguese food and pastries, such as Pastel de nata.
Once you have seen the most, the driver will take you back to your hotel or apartment in Porto.
