Tasting Stops Throughout the Day: Relish a variety of local dishes and wines without the need for a sit-down lunch, making it perfect for food lovers who enjoy a more flexible dining experience. Begin your day with a comfortable pick-up at the center of Porto in a luxury minivan/minibus. Along the way to Douro Valley we will stop in a special viewpoint, a perfect spot for photos. Drive along the famous N222 route, often called one of the most scenic roads in Portugal, continue your journey to a Douro winery (quinta) that has a spectacular view over the river. Take a guided tour through the cellars, learning about the estate’s rich history and wine-making processes. This will be followed by a tasting of their finest Port wines. After the tasting continue and arrive in the scenic town of Pinhão to embark on a private cruise along the Douro River. As you cruise along the Douro River, enjoy a selection of local tapas featuring cured meats, traditional bola de carne (savory meat pie), savor a traditional pastel de nata, Portugal’s famous custard tart and other regional specialties paired with Sparkling Wine, this onboard experience gives you a taste of the region’s culinary heritage while surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Following the cruise, continue with a scenic drive toward the town of Amarante. Along the way, make stops at various viewpoints, allowing you to capture photos of the iconic Douro landscapes. Upon reaching Amarante, explore the town’s historic center, which offers a unique glimpse into Portugal’s cultural heritage. Located within the Vinho Verde wine region, Amarante is known for its charming streets, baroque architecture, and the São Gonçalo Church, dedicated to the town’s patron saint. Taste the iconic São Gonçalo pastry, a specialty that comes with some interesting local legends, guaranteed to bring smiles and laughter. To end your journey, stop at a traditional tasca (local tavern) in Amarante’s old town, where you’ll sample a plate of regional cured meats alongside a glass of Vinho Verde. For those still hungry after the day’s tastings, the tasca offers options to purchase additional snacks, including the classic Portuguese sandes de presunto (ham sandwich) or grilled chorizo, adding an extra touch of local flavor to your day. The tour wraps up back to Porto, arriving more or less around 3:30 PM.
