Description
Get picked up at your hotel/accommodation in the city of Porto. Start the trip to Arouca, at Passadiços do Paiva (Around 1 hour).
The Passadiços do Paiva are a series of wooden pedestrian walkways across the Paiva River, in Arouca. The boardwalks are around 8.7 kilometers long, with a further 12 kilometers expected to be built. They were built along the left bank of the Paiva River, in the Douro River basin, between the Espiunca bridge and the Areinho river beach, thus covering the area known as the Garganta do Paiva, being one of the elements of the Arouca Geopark.
Located an hour away from Porto, the Passadiços do Paiva allow you to leave the reality of the urban space of the city of Porto and enter a scene straight out of a movie. In August 2017, following its success, the construction of a 480-meter pedestrian bridge over the Paiva River was awarded, with a budget of around 1.7 million euros, whose transparent floor (constructed with a super metallic mesh) -resistant) will be suspended 150 meters high, 1.20 meters wide throughout, supported by just two cables connecting both banks of the river in the Garganta do Paiva region, allowing you to appreciate the Aguieiras waterfall and the staircase monumental walkways of Paiva from a higher level.
Start the journey along the Areinho River Beach. Here you can take a route and walk on the 516Arouca Bridge which will take around 3 hours. The guide will pick you up at the final part, Ponte de Espiunca.
After that, the guide/driver will recommend a restaurant in the Alverenga area to enjoy a good lunch. (Expense not included) Arouca's gastronomy is rich and varied. For this reason, do not end your visit to this hospitable land without sitting at the table to taste and savor its most typical dishes and most famous sweets, washed down with excellent regional wine and a liqueur with a unique flavor. Regional and traditional dishes are prepared with the meat of animals raised outdoors, on the mountain slopes of the Gralheira Massif, fed on natural vegetation, without using feed, which gives the deliciously tender meat an unparalleled flavor. The meat of these animals can be prepared in several ways, constituting typical dishes of the region.
After this, you will have time to visit the Monastery of Santa Maria de Arouca and the Museum of Sacred Art of Arouca (entrance fees not included in the price). Finally, start the journey back to Porto. The driver/guide drops you back at your hotel.
